Lafayette business pioneer dies at 73 WLFI.com
LAFAYETTE, Ind. WLFI - A groundbreaking Lafayette businesswoman passed away this week.
Leeta Myers was the owner and operator of The Debonair beauty salon for over 50 years. She passed away Tuesday morning from heart disease at the age of 73.
Making people feel and beautiful was Myers' lifelong dream. Her first shop held only six chairs. Only a few years later she moved to a shop that held 23 chairs.
Myers' sister and employee Vela Stoops said her sister wanted to be a successful business woman from the start.
"We just out grew our small shop and this was open so she bought this here, and just got more people to come to work and more customers came in. It just multiplied," said Stoops.
Anita Pierce has been a lifelong friend and customer of Myers.
"Leets was a very loving caring, compassionate person. She was great in so many things. She loved beauty all around her," said Pierce.
Myers started The Debonair right out of beauty school. It was one of the first beauty salons in Lafayette. Now, it is one of the busiest.

Beauty Shop?
how do you french braid and do cornrolls and what is the best haircut? i need to know because i'm thinking about opening a beauty shop
its really hard to tell someone step by step in words rather than action.... sorry
because its takes time to learn
its more of a skill
Do you tip the ladies who work in the beauty shop on Kadena Ab?
I know its a silly question but have heard Okinawans don't like to be tipped. Its my first time at a beauty shop on base and don't want to look silly.
if they are japanese then do not give them a tip if they are american then by all means give them a tip...japanese do not expect tips..and its actually rude to give them one...
In a row of 8 shops can i stop the hairdressers next to my tanning/nail/beauty shop from offering nails?
I have a small shop in a row of 8 other shops. We offer tanning nails & beauty & have worked hard to get our business up & running. The hairdressers next door is planning to rent a table in their shop to a nail technician offering the same services as we do. where as i understand competition can be healthy i do find this a problem as this is a very small area we are talking about with little passing trade. I would like to know if i can oppose this and if so how i can go about it?
You can talk to your landlord and ask them to restrict the shop next to yours from offering competing services. Point out that if the hairdresser offers these services your own business will suffer and that might be bad for the landlord. Also check your lease contract to see if there is any language regarding non-competition -- it makes no sense for a landlord to offer two businesses that offer the same service in the same complex.
Otherwise you can go to that shop and come to some kind of mutual aggreement that keeps both of you from going out of business -- perhaps offer referrals and/or discounts for people who do their hair and their nails on the same day?
But failing that, there is generally no legal restriction against someone offering competing services in the same area as you. do what they can to gain a competitive advantage.
How to get a job at a beauty shop?
I was wondering what one would have to do to get a job at a beauty shop?
well if you want to work there you would need a license (to do hairstyling, manicures, pedicures. facials, etc) also if your looking for jobs in beauty shops maybe you should try using craigslist.com and click on your city or area nearest you. On that website they have plenty of job postings of everytype.
What's a website I can explore the shop for rent to do my beauty shop?
please give me the website I can find the shop for rent to do my beauty shop in West End (London zone1).
Cheer.
Try things like loot and other papers on line for your area. Also check out your local estate agents under business premises. Word of mouth is always a good one so if you see any premises for sale or rent (boards outside) go into neighbouring shops and ask about the landlords etc. You can find out lots more information that way.

You might want to brush up on your grammar first-sounds like you are motivated to succeed!
Best Wishes!
People just spent good money getting their hair done. Most of them want to keep it looking just that good until their next visit.
Learn your products and what each does for the different types of hair and hair styles.
Suggest the products that would work for them.
Above all, don't forget to ask for the sale, which can be done 100 different ways.
"Do you want try this shampoo?"
"I think you'll love this gel, and if you buy the shampoo, you'll get it for free. Would you like to try that deal for $15?
When they ask you a question--they are telling you that they are interested in buying.
All you have to do is answer every question honestly--even if you have to ask them to hang on a minute while you call your beauty supply house. You will earn their business plus business from their friends and family.
Be yourself, sell products that you believe in and you will be successful!
I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.
My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)
I don't know if they still have that promotion, but you can try to get the free card holder here:

What is a good hair cut for woman over 50? Hair is way below shoulders. Any one know a good beauty shop ?
I would like to find a beauty shop that can look at your face and body to give you the best hairstyle to complement your face and body. Anyone know of one? i love my long hair, but it is hot, and it is a lot of work keeping it looking nice.
To a find a good salon, I highly recommend going to www.redken.com and clicking on the salon finder link. You can put in your zip code and it will give you a list of Redken salons. Redken provides plenty of continuing education to it's salons and stylists which will include the type of service you are looking for. As for the hair style, the same rule applies whether you are over 50 or under 25. Bone structure, height, life style, hair texture, color, density, and many other factors determine a great style for you. In general, this does not include something parted down the m iddle and all one length but without a photo of you, I can't recommend a specific style. Most reputable salons offer complimentary consultations. Schedule an appointment or two at various salons in your area. When you find a stylist you're comfortable with, you can schedule an appointment. Go with an open mind, and allow the stylist to tell you what he/she would do if they had carte blanche to do whatever they wanted. This will give you a good feel for whether you want them to do your hair. A good consultation should include plenty of questions about your hair, your styling abilities, time constraints, lifestyle, etc. If you'd like to email me a recent photo of yourself, I could give you some recommendations. Good luck
Is it prohibited from a dog being in a beauty shop/hair salon?
I am told that a beauty shop can be fined if a dog is brought into the establishment while I am having my hair done?
If it is a private establishment and you personally know the owner, that owner might allow you to bring your dog. If it is a working dog (not just seeing eye), then it IS allowed. But a public establishment could be sued by anyone who does not want to have a dog in there for reasons such as allergies, dislike, or pure fear of dogs. Even if they weren't sued, they could lose a lot of regular customers. Definitely leave your dog at home, or where you can see it in the car with the windows cracked on COOL days (If you are not going to take hours, that is).
