Men Head to the Spa for Manicures, Pedicures, and Massage MyFox Chicago
11.08.11
Chicago - If a day at the spa sounds like it's for women only, perhaps you need to kick back, grab a beer and watch TV at Chicago's Sir Spa.
Semi truck salesman Christopher Mau has gotten a pedicure, eyebrow wax and a massage there. "It's just a real nice atmosphere to come and relax," he said.
More than 90 percent of the clients at Sir Spa are men; at Spa Space in the West Loop, they account for 30 percent.
"It's really common place. We're not surprised to see a man walk in the doors at spa space," said Spa Space owner Natalie Tessler. "We don't ask what their alibi is when they're here." Brian Brundage works in the recycling industry, wears steel-toe boots and does mixed martial arts. He also goes to Spa Space and gets a pedicure at least once a month.
"Its not about how manly it is or isn't, its really about taking care of yourself," he said. The International Spa Association said that 30 percent of spa customers are men. The most popular treatment for both men and women is massage.

Men Can Get Pedicures Too
Getting a pedicure on my lunch break in Brooklyn NY. Health is wealth. Men take care of yourself.
How many men actually get pedicures?
Nov 24, 2008 by Pauly | Posted in Men's Health
I do get a pedicures on a regular basis, because I do have trouble trying to clip my own toe nails. At times they are not clipped properly, and hang-nails or on my toe nails, which is not good. One gal who I know never heard of men getting pedicures, and thought it was strange men getting pedicures; therefore, how many men do get pedicures. Please do not think I am strange, I like to know if many men do get pedicures.
I get pedicures monthly. My wife suggested I try it a couple years ago, and I got hooked. What's not to like about someone else clipping your nails, and giving you a nice foot and lower leg massage. Completely 100% straight here, and not metro either!
The girl I go to says she has 6-7 men that are regulars.
CW | Dec 01, 2008
My husband.... but I have to do it.... It's pretty common.
samakāmitā | Nov 24, 2008
I'm seriously thinking of having one for the first time for the same reasons. My toes look so ugly. I don't care what people think of me as long as I'm sure of my sexuality besides they don't pay my bills ( & want to have a say in my life?) That is not goping to happen. Be yourself! So liberating.
Thamain P | Nov 24, 2008
I do, but I'm gay. I usually do mostly in the summer during flip flop season, cause I have a couple nails that aren't pretty. I've been prone to ingrown toenails too, so it helps prevent it.

Do women think it is weird if a man likes getting Manicures and Pedicures or do you like it?
Apr 09, 2008 by Cooper B | Posted in Other - Skin & Body
i like it. i think that everyone should be able to get pampered in some way. some men work very hard and they deserve it! i also find it sexy that a man is confident enough to go into a nail salon and get a mani and pedi ;)
bellA | Apr 09, 2008
I dont think is it weird but i would want my man to get one
Sam | Apr 09, 2008
if ur meh dad, hellz yeah u get a manipedi!
CC | Apr 09, 2008
yeah, i think it's weird if they go to the nail salon & get it done.
but if they just take care of their nails (clipping) at home, then it's fine.
london | Apr 09, 2008
Noo I don't like that! I know some men like to take care of their looks, but I don't know the way I see it manicures and pedicures are a girl thing. That's just my opinion.
Pink Bear | Apr 09, 2008
yes it is a good thing to do
Michelle | Apr 09, 2008
Going to a salon to get it done... ya kinda weird.
But girls still like to have a guy who takes care of their nails.. just by themselves and not at a salon~!
BooBear | Apr 09, 2008
A weekly manicure is not unbearable for a man if he really needs it. For example, if he is an auto mechanic or works in a factory. Clean nails are a lot more attractive. A guy getting a pedicure every other month is not a bad thing either. Who wants to snuggle with a man with hobbit feet that have an inch of dead skin on the bottom of them?? yuck! I say, if a man keeps it simple and doesn't get these things done on a very strict schedule, then it's alright.
Brandi | Apr 09, 2008
I really feel those things are meant for pretty women and not for handsome guys.
Guys rugged looks are only adorable, they must be neat but not so beauty conscious
krupa d | Apr 09, 2008
If You Was My Dad I Would Be So embarrased And No I Think It Might Look Gay ?If I Saw A Man sat Der getting a manicure saying "i think im going to grow them abit longer , so you can do more with then next time" all i have to say is haaaa
Lindzi | Apr 09, 2008
I don't think it's weird at all. Business men tend to do this more because they need to look nice. Good grooming is never wrong.
Lily | Apr 09, 2008
I would think it was a bit weird.

No. What's wrong with pampering and taking care of yourself? Nothing!

How many women here would be willing to get a pedicure from a man?
May 17, 2006 by fiji2litre | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
Is it me or are there no male nail techs at salons?
How many of us would feel comfortable getting a pedicure from a man?
They are the best to do it because they do it with admiration and passion. I believe one of the best things ever is to make a woman feel satisfied, relaxed and happy.
Kiwi | May 17, 2006
I wouldn't have a problem with it if he was any good.
TahoeTeddy | May 17, 2006
There are male nail techs at the salon I go to but they only do nails.I don't think I would mind them doing my pedicure but wouldn't trust them to wax my eyebrows.
rachellynn200 | May 17, 2006
usually they are better. i don't know why.
marinathegirl | May 17, 2006
There are three male nail techs at my salon, heck they are better that the girls that do mine. I have no prob whatso ever. having a man at my feet, pampering me no less are you kidding that is where he should be. Queen Bo has spoken!! LOL
Bo | May 17, 2006
i'd feel comfertable if only i knew that they had professional training
sushi_lover | May 17, 2006
I have, and it was no big deal to me. Of course, I knew him prior to my pedi, and we just chatted away. I wasn't the least bit uncomfortable. I don't believe I would be uncomfortable with a male giving me a pedicure who I didn't know. Much like having my hair done.
polishedamethyst | May 17, 2006
The best pedi ive ever had was from a man...and he was missing too fingers. He was the best, and i miss him!
Sasha Lee | May 17, 2006
Darling I am not a nail tech but I would love to take care of your little puttsies. LOL
blueyes | May 17, 2006
Where I come from there are so many males who give pedicures... I wouldn't have a problem them giving me a pedicure. I also think that they give better foot massages than women...
MizB | May 17, 2006
I have and would do it again. I think it would be sexist to judge a pedi based on gender

Is it ok for a man to have a french pedicure?
May 10, 2007 by romeousn | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
I have a french pedicure. Im a happily married male and my wife will not be surprised one day to find out I'm gay. She is accepting of it, but she has her limits of acceptance. My family doesn't know or my clients as well. I know they can't yet accept this sort of thing. I think men look much better with them as do women. Its just taking care of feet and men can have some BAD feet. Besides all the homophobic uneducated insecure people that don't like this... - I would like an honest opinion from someone not in the predescribed group. I ask again, Is it ok for a man to have a french pedicure?
I did say non-homophobic people answer. If you stereotype a gay for having french nails...Well, I doubt you know any gay males with a french pedicure...Go to college, then give an opinion.
ya! Why not?
Your right, men should take care of their feet, and so what if they look NICE. better than someother peoples feet.
It isn't a big deal, and i honostly think it shouldn't be a sign of gayness.
cookie_dough874 | May 11, 2007
no to me its not okay.
liberianprinces | May 11, 2007
Its not anyones place to say if its OK or not. I think its a bit weird but if you like it, than thats your thing.
im not sure if you just said you were gay..? im totally cool with that...but your wifes OK with you being gay? i might have read that wrong..idk
krw22 | May 11, 2007
I would say no. Even if you were openly gay, I would say no.
Theresa M | May 11, 2007
They're your toes.
I have to admit, if my husband came home with one i might be a little weirded out, but seriously, do your thing. like the saying goes "the people who matter don't care, and the people who care don't matter."
I don't feel that you (or anyone) should need to seek approval from anyone but yourself. If you like it and you're happy with it, then that is what counts.
a jarhead's wife | May 11, 2007
It is OK but it is a bit odd. I may be a bit ignorant of it as my feet require almost no maintenance. It seems to me that it is mostly something to make your feet look better. Who looks at feet?
bravozulu | May 11, 2007
when you say french pedicure, do you mean where they paint the tips white? or just a normal pedicure where they scrub your feet, file your nails and give your feet a massage?
Personally, I think that if it makes you happy then go for it. I dont think its a question of right or wrong. I know many men who get manicures/pedicures (minus the polish). I agree that feet are often ignored by many men (and therefore look dirty and unkempt). It makes you feel better when you do simple things for yourself (or atleast thats how I feel).
The issue with your wife is another story all together. That part sounds like it needs counseling.

A French Pedicure? Does it have to be French?
My horseshoe'r does mine and he is not french at ALL!
Another way to have your toenails cut are the Chinese Bench Grinder.
Dont need to go to Collage Dude. Taking care of yourself is what you do best, I bet. For me helping others is a much better time. Hope ya enjoy our cute nails.
How about a German with hedge clippers, but that could be a little scary!
Look man just get some clippers and do it yourself. You don't need all the other stuff.
duster360 | May 11, 2007
no its not,it is like if u want to tell every one that u r gay.i think it is awful.
saso2524 | May 11, 2007
Nothing wrong with that at all- after all, they're your feet! And there's certainly nothing wrong with taking care of yourself- though polish on your toenails if you're a guy is certainly out of the norm. No worries though, in my opinion!

Women, what do you think about male getting pedicures and manicures?
Jul 04, 2006 by Floridafan | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
I am a prominent male buisness owner and i get pedicures and manicures before important meetings, no paint of course, and I was wondering how women feel about men getting pedicures and manicures, because I've gotten a few stares in the spas.
No problem at all... In fact, men who are unkempt with dirty or long or sharp finger/toenails that scratch are a real turn off!!! Also, if I owned a spa or manicure/pedicure business, I would think you were the best thing since sliced bread.
Perhaps women are staring at you because you are gawjus?!

I have nothing but respect for a man who takes care of his appearance. You have to be careful not to come off looking over-groomed, though. I don't want a guy that's prettier than me.

jackierosenfeld | Jul 04, 2006

Well, sounds ok to me. As long as your not getting polish or French tips. And as long as they are not like really long.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to keep your nails in tip top shape. Some guys have nasty nails, and it's kinda gross when they touch you and you can see they like bite them. Yick.
crystal_horse51 | Jul 04, 2006
You know the importance of looking good for your business. I think that as long as a person does not spend too many hours in a day on their appearance that they should go for it. Why should women be the only ones to enjoy the spa?
Well groomed hands are SEXY!
chuckie411 | Jul 04, 2006
I love when a man has clean nails on his hands and feet. My husband is a landscaper, but he gets manicures and pedicures regularly, so he's got the smoothest hands. Without them, his nails would be a wreck!
tictickchick | Jul 04, 2006
Getting them to look good and impress and not look like a dirty scroungy scrub? It's all good. I have tried to take my mechanic boyfriend in to get some work done (as a joke.. he's not the type of man to do it..) and he just growls at me! HAHA!
Good for you for making an effort.. as long as you aren't totally self centered and vain it doesn't matter.
youbettago | Jul 04, 2006
There's nothing wrong with it. Raggedy nails, toe nails and cuticles are not cute.
NAINALUVS | Jul 04, 2006
it's hygienic to have a pedicure and manicure
radioactivefemale | Jul 04, 2006
there's nothing wrong with a man with soft, smooth hand's. to thank his lady customers and i guess guys. so YES i think it is OK for a man.
mennyray | Jul 04, 2006
I think it's great! It must take a lot of guts for a straight man to walk into a salon or spa! In this society we stereotype and make judgments before we think about the situation. It just goes to show that you really take good care of your hygiene...I wish my man would get a facial! Kudos to you for taking in consideration that you are working in a professional atmosphere and present a very neat and clean appearance!
kwfl070405 | Jul 04, 2006
I think its great...I've been trying to get my boyfriend to go with me!
gummiebeargirl08 | Jul 04, 2006
i think its fine unless there is polish involved and also i think it is a turn off when guys have dirty nails
meganlmanion | Jul 04, 2006
I think its a very great idea. You see to many men with black
in their nails its not very appealing, especially when holding
hands. I can understand the job side of it to for some men.
They work with there hands in some pretty awful stuff and
its hard for them to get all that grease etc. out of there nails.
But hands and feet should always be clean no matter what.
shadowtwo | Jul 04, 2006
I think its great that you take care of your appearance and have the money to go and get manicures and pedicures. Some women at the spa might have been wondering if you were gay but who cares--just smile at them and forget it.
aanatami | Jul 04, 2006
There is definetly nothing wrong with a male wanting to get a manicure or pedicure. It just goes to show that you care about your body and how you present yourself. Plus pedicures do wonders of tired weary feet. Don't worry about the stares that you get at the spa. They are just jeolous that their husbands/boyfreinds don't care about it as much as you do! ~Good luck!! ~Bon

Men getting Manicures and Pedicures, whare are your thoughs?
Jun 09, 2008 by Colorguy | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
Voice your opinion about how you feel about guys getting a manicure and or pedicure? Is it to girly or gay? Does it make them (us) less of a man? What woman think about thier guys getting manicures or pedicures?
Just to let you know, I get monthly manicures, and the occasional Pedicure...I also get "clear coat" on my nails.
Not all of us men are naturally great at taking care of ourselfs in that department, and if it makes you feel good about you, then I say do it. Let people think what they will, you know who you are, thats all that should matter. And if you're single, it doesn't hurt to look good. I go get my eye brows done, and I'm considering starting to get a pedicure once a month or so. I'd get a manicure to but I can't kick the habit of picking my nails, for them to even grow out. So I say do what you need to, to look and feel good and take care of yourself. And that my friend doesn't make you gay, it makes you concious of your looks and health. Neither of which are a bad thing these days.

Maybe I'm biased but I don't think that there is anything wrong with it because you are just trying to have your nails look nice and not like Sasquatch.

It wouldn't bother me, but it might bother some women. I, personally, like men who don't try to act all manly and are just themselves. And, i'd perfer a man getting a manicure/pedicure, it just shows he can take care of himself.

Can someone describe for me what a pedicure for a man consists of?
Jul 04, 2008 by Failure to communicate | Posted in Other - Beauty & Style
I know they won't be painting my toenails, but can you tell me what they will do, and help me decide if I should get one?
they will soak your feet, exfoliate them with this pumice/cream, srub of the dead cell and dry spots with a foot file, they might file your nails (if you want them to, tell them no if you dont want it) and then they might put on this type of clear polish(dont worry its made for men, you cant even tell that there is anything on, its not shinny )
