Is the closing of Borders Books another nail is coffin of car buff book culture? TFLcar.com

I Read the News Today Oh Boy

I just saw it, as reported in the Wall Street Journal; Borders Books and Music is liquidating. Closing up shop. Disappearing. All the stores will be gone by September.

This hurts. It’s yet another example of the financial shenanigans that the money people keep perpetrating. The deals that these people actually pull off lead to private jets that fly to private islands. The ones that go bust lead to… the closing of 399 remaining stores, 10,700 people losing their jobs, on top of a first round of store closings, a month or two ago.

For me, it’s also personal. Even though I’m not an employee. Never was one. I don’t know anyone that works at a Borders. I don’t own any stock.

What hurts the most to me is that this means another place where I would escape the drudge, where I would be surrounded by collected books and magazines, on various and sundry topics, not the least of which is all things automotive, from around the world… is soon to be no more.

How to Buff Nails & Why

I think buffing nails is very helpful and important. Here im showing you how i buff my nails at home. I hope this video helps some one! Enjoy

How often should I buff my nails?

My nails are really weak and I have decided that instead of putting polish over them, I will buff my nails and give myself manicures without nail polish. However, I have heard that buffing the nails can make nails weak. I have also heard that buffing can stimulate nail growth because of blood flow to the nails. So how often should I buff my nails to make sure that I am not harming them and making them weaker in the process?

once a month is more than enough

Nail polish is actually something you should use to strengthen your nails. It provides protection if you have weak brittle nails. Buffing will not hurt your nails. All buffing does is add a shine to your nail.

Still use nail polish,it won't make them weak but make sure you use a proper basecoat so your nails will not stain. It is important to buy a good quality nail varnish remover so you do not strip the moisture from them. It would also be good for your nails if you bought nail strengthener, you put it on just like nail varnish. Only buff your nails once a month, any more than that will weaken them further.

buffing is only to add shine to the nail. caused by stimulation from friction. over buffing can cause burning and thinning of nail. if you want natural looking nails. use a clear nail polish with strengthener. not only gives shine, but protects as well. as for buffing? just skip it. it is not necessary. if discoloration is what your after. then allow your nails to air for a day or so. nails need to breathe. the discoloration is lack of oxygen from nail polish.

Is it possible to buff your nails too much?

If I first buff away the ridges, can it become painful? Is simply polishing them harmful?(Not nail polish, but the shining side of the nail buffer.) How often should I do it? Can it be painful?

you can damage the nail bed it can become very sensitive, it can take out all the natural oils, never file across always go up and down and yes it can be painful if you damage the nail bed getting water on your nails will hurt.

Generally, the rule is that you shouldn't buff for more than 30 seconds, and you should only do it about once a month to avoid damaging your nails. If you buff too often, it can become painful.

How do you buff your nails without using a buffer?

I want to buff my nails at home, but I do not have a buffer. They do not have buffers where I looked so don't say buy one!
I will say something:

I do not live in the states. So I can only shop at the Navy Exchange on the base. So I cannot look elsewhere. I would have thought of that if I could and I should have said it. So please dont tell me look at other places.

If they don't have buffers where you looked, then look elsewhere. Plenty of places sell them - CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Sally Beauty, Walmart, K-Mart, and many, many more. But, to answer your question - there is nothing else you can use to buff your nails. At least not that I am aware of anyway.

How can I buff my nails?

How can I buff my nails? I have a nail buffer/shaper but it doesn't have instruction so please tell me how to use it!
I also have a big kit of nailstuff that came with it!
the kit came with cuticle remover cream, nail stencils for french manicures, four step thing (it says #1 remove, #2 clean, #3 condition, & # 4 shine), nail polish (french pink, french white, and top coat + more normal ones), a nail white pincil, and some other things I don't know what to call!

tru blu spa in bath and body works has a really good buffing block. so does miss manicure which u can find in your local drugstore. these blocks hav 4 sides and are all numbered so its easy to follow. i hav both but really like the tru blu spa one more. they're both good tho.

rub the buffer back and forth on your nail till it shines

get a three step nail buff, follow the steps, and your nails will be smooth and shiny

How do I use a four step nail buffer, and why do I do it?

The buffer has four sides and they are all different colors and they have steps on each of the sides (SIDE 1: EVEN OUT, SIDE 2: SMOOTH NAIL, SIDE 3:BUFF NAIL, SIDE 4: SHINE NAIL).

Number 1 is usually used on the length of your nails, to shorten and shape your nails.
number 2 is then used on the surface of the nail to remove ridges, be careful with this one, should only be used once a month or you risk thinning your own nail too much
Number 3 is then used to buff your nail, similar to step 2 but not as damaging, this still shouldn't be used too regularly as it is still removing some of your nail.
Number 4, Rub vigorously and you'll have a shine like you've used varnish on your nails. This can be used daily to keep the mirror shine.

The reason you do it.....well that depends on you, its just cosmetic, there are no benefits really.

How do nail buffers get nails so shiny?

What is going on when you buff nails with those high-shine buffers? How do the nails end up so shiny - what physical process is actually happening and what material are these buffers made from? Is this a new type of buffer?

When nails grow, they have natural striations-lines- in them. these lines catch light from different angles and disperse light into very wide angles. These striations are usually smaller than you can see with the naked eye, but you might be able to see them in the right light at the right angle.
Buffed nails are actually sanded down nails. Sanded with a very very fine material, so only the very slightest of amounts of material is removed. The tops of the ridges are brought down until the surface is all one level. It is not flat-the nail will still have a curve to it-but the light is not broken up as much by nail surface. It bounces off a more uiform way, making them look shiny.
Buffers are just emory boards or samdpaper that is very very fine.

they grind off old enamel

Should you buff your nails if they are thin?

If you have thin nails, should you use a nail buffer? A regular one, or a 4-way one? have many times should you buff it/ stroke it? When's the best time to buff it (after cutting them, after a shower..)? Thanx!

well it doesn't matter if u buff it but u should buff it the regular way.and ......ur welcome.

can you overdose on nail buffing and get nail cancer?

i heard that someone had it and the docs had to remove the nails in order to save the fingers. is it true? if it is, till what extend can i buff?

Good grief. Where do people come up with this kind of garbage?

What could cause your fingernails to turn half red tips down? under the nail wont buff off, blood like?

It sounds like you have a blood blister underneath your fingernail.

What is the PROPER WAY TO BUFF YOUR NAILS?

Because after I buff my nails, they look good, but sometimes it makes scratches. How do I get rid of them?
Also... I've had big, white scratches on my nails for a long time... how do i get rid of them?

Thanks <3

If I buff my nails, I get scratches too, probably because the coarsest grit portion of the nail buffer is too harsh for my particular nails. Once they're there, I can't get rid of them, because the more I try to buff them out, the more I just get scratches on other parts of my nail, and then my whole nail becomes way too thin and weak. I only use the shining part of the buffer on my nails, and that works quite well for me.
