How to Do a Professional Looking Root Touch-up at Home with a Touch-up Pen DivineCaroline

It’s been six weeks since your last hair coloring, and those pesky roots are showing up again. You don’t have time to get to the salon, but you’re tired of messy home-coloring kits. Why not try the quick and easy solution—the touch-up pen? If you’re worried that you don’t know how to do a professional-looking root touch-up at home with a touch-up pen, no fears—it’s really pretty easy.

Instant root coverage is not exactly rocket science, but there are certain things you need to know. First, choose a brand of touch-up pen that has a proven record of looking natural and professional and won’t make you look like you just ran a brown crayon over your hair. Experts seem to agree that Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Colore Root Touch-up & Highlighting Pen is your best bet.

Of course, it is also the most expensive at around $23. It’s worth your while though to invest in a good touch-up pen, as many cheaper brands can feel waxy or powdery to the touch; not to mention they can give you a result that looks like you touched up your roots with mascara.

Hair Dye - Root Touch Up!

Touching up roots is easy and affordable - It only takes about an hour total - so why not?

How can you do at home root touch up without leaving a weird mark in your hair?

If you use an at home root touch up kit, does it ever overlap the existing color and cause a weird break line or is it mostly undetectable. I don't want my hair to break off at a weak points way on top of my hair or something bizarre like that. But I want to bleach at home and maintain it with over the counter box kits. Is that a good or bad idea?

I promise it wil break. You don`t have control of where you are place color in the back of your head, or anywhere. You will over lap and it will break over time. Out of lets say 50 people I have seen maybe 1 person that actually did a pretty good job, but they more than likely have good strong hair. I strongly recommend going to a Professional. Don`t be cheap with the one thing people see first.

bad idea bad bad bad.. and i dont even no why

you would defiantly have to have someone help you, you can't see the back of your head, and you would want to be able to put it on fast, & not overlap, that is is the main thing no overlapping, even some professionals will overlap bad thing to do, over time it will weaken your hair and sometimes where you overlap at the color will be a bit different, depending on what you are using. In something with bleach I would say go to a salon or beauty school

how good does the root touch up by clairol work?

I just used this root touch up a couple minutes ago & i want to know if its goin to work. I used the dark brown color one to cover up my blond.

depends on individual..if you have it now.. just wait and see :o)

how much will a root touch up and seven foil highlights be at mastercuts?

So I've been there quite a few times. I need a root touch up and seven foil highlights put in. I know the high lights run about 15, but I don't know about the root touch up.

Could someone tell me the standard pricing please?

they have a website. i just checked. try going on it.

What can I do to my hair with root-touch-up black colour when the rest of my hair is brown with blonde fringe?

I've got a root-touch-up kit (black) from when my hair was black but I didn't use it.

Now my hair is brown shoulder length with a blonde fringe and a small blonde streak randomly placed under my ear.

I'm pretty crazy with hair colours but I don't want to look stupid. Can you suggest how I can use the kit, and link to photos of what you mean, please?

Don't do it

What type of root touch up is best?

Ok, My roots come back so dark and i need to know what is the best root touch up kit to use. I have used some before and they turned my roots orange. I have blond hair normally ash to platinum blond. What root touch up kit is the best to use in between hair colors and will not make my roots orange?

Just plain ole Peroxide

does root touch up really work for blonde hair?

I really just need my roots done and I was wondering what the deal was with that new root-touch up stuff, if it really works and if it looks good on blonde hair.

yes, it works... I use it in between hair appts... even works for gray hair that is growing out...
I love this stuff...

how much do you think my salon will charge for just a root touch up?

the salon i go to when i get it cut and colored it cost normaly 65$ but what do you think they will charge for JUST a root touch up? maybe half of that? 30bucks? what do you think? i tried to call the girl that does my hair but she wasnt in at the time i called. soo idk.

Well you can call and ask someone there how is the avg charge for that service and compare to somewhere else that might be a little cheaper but with the same quality. but I would estimate no more than $15 because it's not a major service, but just check around and see what you can find, but that's just my opinion:)

probably about $15-$20. it's not like they have to color your whole head again, they don't use much dye and it dosen't take long so it should be pretty cheap.

im thinking 20 bucks

can i use those root touch up kits for my highlights?

my friend just did my hair like two hours ago with one of the herbal essence highlighting kits and she didn't get very close to the root so it looks like my hour old highlights are like three months old cuz there is like an inch of brown root before each highlight. looks really crappy but i don't want to hurt her feelings. anyways, can i use those root touch up kits to like complete the highlight to the top of my head? i have dark blonde hair naturally and the highlights are light blonde.

yikes! Go to the salon and get it fixed. Or just dye it all one color and take this as a lesson never to diy highlights - always salon!!!

Can anyone PLEASE explain the process of root touch-up after foil highlights?

I have natural light brown base color with golden blonde-colored full head foil highlights. I can't find anything online about the specific touch-up process. Just that it's the most complicated of all highlighting processes to maintain. I don't understand what they do, and I didn't bargian for a high maintenance hair color. Can someone tell me how foil maintenance works?

(The background to all this is that I walked into a retarted salon and said, "I'd like subtle full head highlights -" and before I could finish the girl pranced off into the back room and came out with the color already mixed and a box of foils. She didn't even explain what she was doing or give me options as to what kind of highlights I wanted. Luckily I love what she did, but I'm just apprehensice as to what I got myself into.)
Oh believe me, I'm not even considering doing anything myself. And the cost isn't my problem, it's the damage.

all they do it touch up your roots they don't apply bleach to any other part of the hair except the roots. it helps eliminate damage from placing bleach over bleach which is very damaging. when you just do your roots it keeps your hair healthier that to totaly redo your highlights.

Can a root touch up be done on short hair ?

My hair is only an inch to begin with . 1/2 inch of colored hair and 1/ 2 inch of new growth that needs to be retouched. Can this be done without saturating any of the hair that has already been colored?

no its very difficult
