Come on in, the Water's Just Around the Corner New York Times

Once seen as an afterthought relegated to the basement or attached to a sweaty gym area, hotel pools in recent years have become destinations in themselves, especially in areas with cold winters. Properties in urban and suburban areas like the Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, which opened in late 2007, have created artfully executed spaces with prime views and amenities like poolside massages, cocktails, meal service and meditation sessions.

These pools as social centers bear little resemblance to their predecessors. “Hotels tended to either not have indoor pools or had one that wasn’t so nice with chlorine so strong that it would burn your eyes,” said Adam Weissenberg, chief of the tourism, hospitality and leisure group at Deloitte & Touche, the accounting and consulting company. “It felt like a thrown-in feature, not the focal point it is becoming today.”

Hotels are putting more emphasis on indoor pools as an additional way to make money, said Scott D. Berman, a principal in the hospitality and leisure group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Though pools are expensive to build and maintain, he said, they draw in both overnight guests and local residents.

Can you recommend a spa vacation destination in North America or the Caribbean?

I'm planning to celebrate my 40th birthday at a spa. Have you been somewhere that you would recommend? I'd prefer a package vacation, but am open to ideas/suggestions.

yes in the caribbean it is called aruba. they have a variety of pampering spa treatments of exotic herbal wraps, scrubs and therapeutic body treatments

I want to take a spa/beauty vacation, have any ideas?

I am looking for a vacation for a girlfriend and I to take that will give us spa treatments and a complete beauty hair/makeup makeover. Any ideas?

stobo castle in the scottish borders......

Does anyone have a reccomendation for a spa vacation in Northern California?

I'd like to go somewhere really special for a few days on my own to celebrate my 30th birthday. Thanks for your ideas!

I would highly recommend Silverado Resort in Napa. It is beautiful with great spa facilities as well as tennis, dining, and golf. Plus it's in Napa where you can enjoy sampling some of the great California wines.

Sure, just check our website

Napa Valley has a lot of spa's and a lot of wine!!

where can I go on vacation and get spa services?

Looking for a health spa kind of vacation - want to lose a bit of weight, do some hiking , get some relaxation and get away from it all. I guess Im looking fo a kind of resort but focussed on health, not food and alcohol.

A "Destination Spa" is what you are looking for, not a Resort Spa. Destination Spas are focused on health and life enhancement, feature great hiking as well as several other activities and offer healthy spa cuisine only, no distilled beverages (wine OK at meals).

Pricing is between $1,200 and 8,000 for a 7 day stay and is inclusive of meals, accommodations, activities and some spa services. The spa treatment services depends on the price. Less expensive = few to none, more expensive = more inclusive.

There are only about 30 Destination Spas in North America as compared to the thousands of Resort Spas which are more vacation and pampering oriented. The Southwest and Northeast offer several options with a few in the Midwest and South.

Search for Destination Spa Vacations.

I've been to all of them and can answer any questions for you.

You should try a tropical place. You can go hiking and swimming, go to spas and treat urself maybe a place like cuba which is a huge tourist spot or maybe Puerto Rico, i heard that they have alot of activites that you can do to lose weight and not eat and eat so much .but u know that usually when u go on vacation, u gain weight from all of the fancy dinners

I am looking for an affordable spa vacation for myself and 3 friends in the Northeast. Any suggestions?

We are interested in massage, yoga, relaxation. We are not golfers.

For what it's worth, my 3 girlfriends and I stayed for the weekend at the Short Hills Hilton in Short Hills, NJ (even though we live right here in Jersey). They have a nice spa that offers a whole bunch of different spa treatments, an indoor pool, hot tub, etc. Try the Souffle Restaurant in Summit, which is right down the road. Go shopping at the Short Hills Mall right across the street.

What is a good way to relax on vacation besides a massage or spa?

I'm going on vacation and planning some fun things like a spa visit for my boyfriend and I, and a boat trip. What else can be really relaxing?

You mentioned a boat trip... I'm not sure what pastimes you and your boyfriend enjoy, but fishing is a good activity for stimulating conversation! If your icky about fish guts, then it'll give him the chance to come to your metaphorical rescue and play the "strong man" figure... and if you play it right it may help him to feel accomplished and masculine because he's taken care of you and provided for you, while you get some good uninterrupted quality time. =)

If you brave the fish guts and let him teach you then it may also stimulate protective male feelings too, and constantly asking for help with bait and such wont get annoying~ =)

I enjoy playing volley ball or any other activity. When you raise your heart rate you also raise the dopamine and endorphins - this makes you feel happy.

lay on the beach with the breeze blowing your hair, the sound of the ocean and a guy rubbing oil on your back.

Getting a professional massage is always good, but can get expensive. As can boating.

Where are you going? That determines a lot of your options, as well as the price of a massage.

-rub each others feet, hands, and shoulders
-walking or hiking (beach, mountain, or open field)
-road trip someplace you are both interested in
-swimming
-hot tub/sauna
-bon fire
-candles and relaxing music
-dancing
-reading (next to each other or to each other)
-cook a meal
-feed each other (chocolates, cake, strawberries, etc)

It really depends on what you both enjoy.

What's the best resort for a "spa" vacation?

The Paradisus Punta Cana;)

try BINTAN ISLAND in Batam (Indonesia)

Well I live in Costa Rica and own a spa, there are several spa resorts here - I would suggest looking into them----

Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
I moved there for a couple of years and this town attracts a lot of tourists. It not only has Bath house Row (numerous spas and bath houses) but also it's surrounded by mountains and has 7 lakes with resorts on them. It is a very beautiful place and I loved living there. People come from miles around to visit there.
It even has a fountain downtown where you can drink fresh spring water. People fill jugs to take home of free mountain spring water.

I suppose that would depend on your particular definition of a "spa" vacation. Some basic questions come to mind right away(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):

1-You say "best resort". There's lots of definitions for what a "best resort" is. What amenities are most important to you at a Spa Resort?

2-Do you have a geographical preference as to where the Spa should be located?

3-Do you have a maximum per night rate you're willing to pay? Are you open to Spa Resort "packages"?

4-Going alone, or with others?(Important as it will affect the cost overall) Do you have an estimated departure date in mind?

Keep in mind again that there are lots of definitions for a "best resort". When travellers recommend a Resort, they base their recommendation on their experiences AND their preferences, which may or may not mirror yours. And at the end of the day, it is YOUR vacation, not theirs. But the above issues once figured out will really simplify the type and location of Spa Resort that you're looking for. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your criteria, we can see what Spa Resorts are available in your proposed timetable that will satisfy your wants and needs and are pocketbook-friendly.

There are lots in Arizona if you want to stay in the US!
