Alexander McQueen and a Spring 2010 creation Salon

There's a distinction to be made between people who simply don't follow fashion and those who take pride in asserting how little they care about it. But both groups -- in fact, anyone who cares about the culture at large -- should take note of the death of Alexander McQueen. For every 1,000 so-called designers who pin a piece of jersey around a mannequin and call it fashion, there's only one McQueen, an explosively imaginative designer who openly courted controversy (he called one of his early collections, a mix of military jackets and torn-lace dresses, "Highland Rape") but who also treated craftsmanship as a foundation and not an afterthought (he began his career as an apprentice on Savile Row, helping to construct custom-made suits for the likes of Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev). In a world where fashion churns through chain stores like H&M and Forever 21 at a dizzying and alarming rate, McQueen's death at age 40 is a sad reminder of the way certain values have been misplaced in our culture: Not just in fashion but in all creative fields, thought, precision, wit and a sense of history are rare and endangered qualities.

Theme for a unisex hair and beauty salon?

have taken on a project for creating a theme for a salon. the target market is teenagers, college students, aspiring models, and the young at heart. I need some insight into what teenagers are into these days. And suggestions as to what thematic elements would apeal to this target audience. Thanx in advance.

to be honest me and my friends just kind of prefer an old school, affordable place with basic ammenities and friendly, good service.

ive been to really douchey, hip places and its a less relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. you dont need gimmicks or non-sense. just perfect the essentials.

Is there any good unisex beauty salon nearby Borivali, Mumbai?

check it out at www.justdial.com or call them

Probably. This question really should have been asked in the Indian Yahoo! Answers. See the link at the bottom of the page (you want the Indian flag next to the text that says India)

barber shop or unisex salon?

ive decided im going to get a haircut for the first time in a while. most of my life, ive gone to various unisex salons because thats where i went mostly as a child. im not really familiar with the barber shop atmosphere or confident i will be satisfied with my hair. my father goes to a barber and comes out with the same combed-part he has had for the past 25+ years (http://www.hji.co.uk/hjimages/images/qhs85/hji/medium/1969-men-parting.jpg)

whats the general consensus on this board? should i try a barber or stick to the unisex salon?
correct link: http://www.hji.co.uk/hjimages/images/qhs85/hji/medium/1969-men-parting.jpg

i currently have a "skater" haircut which i want to get rid of but i dont really have a preference of what new style to get. do barber shops know how to cut more than 1 or 2 ways?

for experience and to try if it cuts good enough, then go to a barber shop and have a cut you want. and if you aren't satisfied, just go back to your fave unisex salon. that would be easy.

one more thing, i think unisex salon cuts better than the barber shop. oops. sorry to say. :)

whatever you are comfortable, you can try a barber shop, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to the salon. :)

ooh definetely unisex salon :) good luck

If you want to get a shorter hair cut, go to a barber. If you want a longer, more styled cut, go to a hair stylist.

barber shops do know more then 2 hair cuts lol so do salons it is what you are comfortable with and if you can tell the stylist or barber what you want. Also so you know I have 3 friends who are barbers but they work in unisex salons also one friend who is a barber and owns the salon so you never know

I need an affordable haircut salon unisex in edmonton AB Could someone help me with this? Thanks?

What's a good name for a unisex children's hair salon?

Think fun & trendy...

Dick and Janes.

How about Jacks and Jills? Or something that has to with children's rhymes?

I think that something like:
Forever Lovely
would be nice.
I don't think it really matters what you call it when it comes to a unisex hair salon. Something that doesn't sound too femenine for a boy but something that sound alluring for a girl. So maybe:
Super Strands
maybe something like that! :)

I like Jack & Jills

Hi guys, to all those living in Westchester County, NY, which unisex hair salon has the?

best looking female haircutters? And what are the haircut prices? I think I'm due for a snip snip before the weekend. Thanks.
I live in lower Westchester County, but am willing to travel up north, even as far as Brewster; but like I said, if the haircutters are attractive...(no guys, just women). I'm just looking to have a trim around the back and sides; looking to grow my hair out on top; the last haircutter (a guy..ughh) chopped off plenty even though I gave him clear instructions not to do that.. ideally, I want to have a haircut (my hair now is not long enough for that) where my scalp on top is combed back (but not like a pompadour type a la Buster Poindexter) and the rest is nice and short blended in.

That's a good idea; I'll bring a picture next time.

The best way to find a hairstylist is to find someone who has the type of hair you have in your area and ask them where do you get your haircut. They will tell you if they are happy with the person if it was the first time or someone they see all the time.
Hairstylist build their clients on word of mouth. We love referrals.
Unless we are so busy we don't need another client. However that person can also recommend someone in the salon that could help you.

When you walk into a salon you may get the person who has the least amount of clients and not the most amount of experience.

Or you can luck out and hit the person who is the best at a moment they are open to take a walk in.

You may need to try different stylist till you achieve the correct look and way you wear your hair.

Also you may need to find a stylist who you are comfortable with too.

The best client is one that is sent from another client as then we know what you have in mind.

Also bring in a photo of you or the hairstyle you like.
That helps a lot.

You get what you pay for so be sure your not getting someone who is not experienced

Colour theme for the inside of my hair salon?

What wall colours do you think would be nice in a unisex salon? Thakns in advance x

It's a really good idea to look up the phycology of colours. It's important when choosing a colour for a salon. I was thinking chocolate brown, but it would be hard with brown to get the chairs etc to co-ordinate. Anyways, best of luck x

what is a good unisex hair salon name?

The Cut

Less Hair, More Flair

Unisex Uncanny

Two architectural intrigues of Wyandotte Street East. The first: double doors to a 'unisex' salon from the 1970s. The salon still seems to be active, but it seems that they had difficulty with the gender ambiguity of the 'unisex' concept that came about in the sixties or seventies. 1372 Wyandotte leads to the women's side of the salon, and 1374 Wyandotte to the men's. While the two sides share the same front desk, these are distinctly different spaces divided by a mirrored wall that separates the menfolk from the women, with a salon on the left and a barber's chair on the right. The unisex concept isn't so convincing, but the twin doors and doubled spaces certainly make this place a candidate for one of Windsor's most uncanny businesses. The second architectural intrigue, not even a block east of the unisex salon is a spiral fire escape which bears a passing resemblance to a more upright version of Vladimir Tatlin's Monument to the Third International (c. 1920) . Interestingly, the central support doubles as a flag pole.
